Title: JCICS Fundraising--Thnink of what International Adoptions would be like without Joint Council?

Dear Colleagues;

Let's go back almost 40 years ago. There were about 30 agencies and organizations facilitating international adoptions and aid work in about half a dozen countries. Then a few organizations came up with an idea--let's get representatives from these organizations in one place and see if we can't work together to help children around the world. WHAT A REVOLUTIONARY IDEA!

Fast forward to the end of 2009. Joint Council has more than 250 members: adoption service providers, family support groups, aid organizations, medical institutions, child advocates and educators. The annual conference is now internationally attended. The web site has grown into a unique source of information. Members benefit from individual country list servs, education programs, and standards of practice. Regardless of size, we have all encountered problems that were resolved by our Joint Council colleagues or Joint Council itself. AND all of us have benefited from Joint Council's increasingly effective advocacy both here and abroad.

The last decade has produced more challenges, nationally and internationally, then any of us could have possibly dreamed of. As a founding member of Joint Council, I know that we would not have accomplished all that has been done in the past 40 years without Joint Council. And I know that we will not be able to continue our work into the future without Joint Council.

We, and the children of our world, need Joint Council now more than ever. Unfortunately, as you know, Joint Council has had to downsize by 60% just when we need them the most! A real financial crisis is jeopardizing the ability of Joint Council to meet the challenges that continue to grow day by day. Without the support of EVERYONE, the very existence of this organization is at risk. Forty years ago there were only a few of us but now there are tens of thousands! Large, medium and small placement agencies, direct service agencies, medical providers, individual members, adoptive parents and grandparents, adult adoptees, and all Americans who care about the children of our world - we need them all.

Sorry about the length of this email but most of you know how I feel about this organization. Be the Answer HAS to allow Joint Council to continue its mission - so I am asking each of you, as individuals, to Join The Movement by donating $40 by September 30th. And I am asking each member organization of Joint Council to pledge to raise $640 by December 31st. Even the smallest of organization can find a way to reach this goal. But this goal of $640.00 is only a minimum. If your agency can donate more, all the better. AND, to show our support, I ask that every organization who will meet my challenge posts their participation to the members listserv. You don't have to divulge the amount if you exceed the goal. Let's be proud of our support of Joint Council!

By joining this campaign, Be The Answer will allow Joint Council to continue its mission to serve the most vulnerable around the world - children without permanent parental care.

We have never needed to work together more than we do now.

Nancy
