MARGAO:

The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) has called for urgent and decisive action against the troubling rise in illegal adoption and human trafficking in Goa. The commission's plea is directed towards law enforcement agencies, government officials, and the public to unite in combating these illicit activities.

GSCPCR has further urged that there be an immediate formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate these cases, bring perpetrators to justice, and prevent future exploitation.

To back their demand, GSCPCR pointed out that in recent years, they have identified multiple cases that reveal a disturbing pattern of illegal adoptions and potential connections to human trafficking networks.

Despite repeated appeals to the Goa Police, the Commission lamented that the response has been marked by a lack of urgency and effectiveness.

They highlighted five such cases as examples.

"The negligence and failure to address these illegal adoptions and trafficking cases not only compromise the safety of our children but also undermine the moral foundation of our society. Each case highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to dismantle these networks, ensuring the safety and rights of every child and mother involved. We must act now to restore faith in our legal and societal frameworks," said GSCPCR Chairperson Peter F Borges.

Thecommission's findings underscore the exploitation and victimization of vulnerable minors, often facilitated by corrupt officials and intermediaries. This situation threatens the integrity of adoption processes and the welfare of children.

“GSCPCR remains steadfast in its commitment to child rights and ethical adoption practices, calling on all stakeholders to ensure the protection and well-being of children and to uphold justice for victims of illegal adoption and human trafficking,” Borges added.
