The police arrested a couple who were planning to adopt a child, two women who orchestrated the child trafficking and the couple’s relative who acted as a mediator in the business.

A team of Delhi Police, after a week-long search, rescued a toddler who was kidnapped and allegedly sold to a childless couple in Vrindavan, 210 kilometres away from Budh Vihar from where he was reported missing.

The police arrested a couple who were planning to adopt a child, three others, including two women who orchestrated the child trafficking and the couple’s relative who acted as a mediator in the business.

“The missing child has been rescued safely. Efforts are being made to nab one more accused,” Jimmy Chiram, DCP Outer District, said.

According to the police, the one-year-old child was abducted from Kanjhawala Road, near Rajni Gupta Hospital, around 10.30 pm on July 6.

The police launched a search after the child’s mother reported that her son was abducted by a woman wearing a red shirt and white trousers.

After scanning the CCTV footage from the scene, the police team apprehended the woman who told the police that she allegedly bought the child from his mother for Rs 1.5 lakh and in turn sold the toddler to another woman for Rs. 2.10 lakh.

Police said that the couple from Vrindavan allegedly bought the child for Rs 3.30 lakh, while the first and the second women in the network earned a commission of Rs 60,000 and Rs 90,000 respectively in the kidnapping business.

“The 39-year-old businessman from Vrindavan, who runs a cooler manufacturing business, and his wife who were desperate to adopt a child finally decided to ‘purchase’ a child illegally through a relative, who acted as a mediator in the transaction,” police said.

Upon tracing the child to Vrindavan, a dedicated police team rescued the missing boy and arrested all individuals involved.

All the five people have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for kidnapping, trafficking of child, and criminal conspiracy.
