bad news
Well, the news out of Bulgaria is bad news :(
Since our case was assigned to a judge that is not "adoption friendly",
we have, of course, already run in to a problem with completing the adoption.
I'm really not surprised.
Nothing about this process has been as it should be.
At any rate, here is the deal:
The judge wants documentation from social services
(the domestic social work people in Bulgaria)
that adoption is in the best interest of the child.
Now, this is a child that has been legally registered for adoption for YEARS.
He has NEVER been in the care of a family.
This is a child who is living in a MENTAL INSTITUTION.
His future in Bulgaria is to remain in that institution until he is 18 and
then be moved to another mental institution for adults,
where he will stay until he dies.
He has no chance to ever leave the walls of an institution.
None.
That is supposed to be better for him than being a part of a family?????
We have already proven EVERY SINGLE THING required by
US law, Bulgarian law and the Hague convention.
It's still not enough.
Of course, social services in Bulgaria takes forever to do anything.
They have balked at this request.
So, unless some miracle occurs, court will not happen on the 16th.
When will it happen?
Who knows!
Social services can take as long as they want to do this report.
They don't have to do the report at all.
They are "discussing it" today.
Even if they do it, they can take as long as they want.
The judge will not approve Kullen's adoption without this report.
Toni is doing everything that she can to get them to do the report.
The director of the insitution has also called social services
and asked them to please do the report and do it NOW.
Will that be enough?
We don't know.
I will never, NEVER understand people that want children to be locked away
for their entire lives.
More than being angry or frustrated today,
more than anything,
I am sad.
and I am losing hope that we we will ever bring this child home
I have a hard time believing that this is all "God's timing".
So please, no one say that in a comment today.
If "God's timing" is to have this precious little boy remain in a
mental institution in Bulgaria,
then it goes against everything I have ever believed....
and I just don't want to hear that today.
