The figures released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare have revealed that since 1970's, the adoption rate in Australia is continuously slipping and has touched its lowest level of 412adoptions per year which in 1970 was 8,000.
The increased acceptance of births after marriage, better birth control and improved sex education are the main reasons which has caused the reduction inadoption rate.
Tim Beard, member of the institute quoted, "There's also other medical reasons like the development of IVF and other reproductive technologies," and added "Fifteen per cent of all adoptions are what we call local, so they're Australian children who don't have a pre-existing relationship with their adoptive parents."
Australian couples are facing strong fight in adopting the babies from China and South Korea.
China and South Korea has changed the adoption system which has toughened the process of adoption of the children by Australian Couples.
Mike Heine and wife Laura Hvala, a Melbourne designer are very much aware about the hackles which the parents have suffer in adopting a children from another country as the couple had adopted 22 months old baby, Linda, who has turned 5 now, had to go through a process lasting for 6 years to complete the procedure of adoption.
