Azerbaijan is facing a pressing issues of adoption. There are a lot of couples who want to adopt a kid, but there are very few orphans in the country.

Many families are in the queue for years in anticipation for the right to become parents, the correspondent of "MIR 24" Elvira Khusainova reports.

Spouses Guliyev came to learn the state of affairs. They are waiting for a few years for their right to adoption. There are dozens of families In the list in front of them. There are nearly ten thousand children in boarding schools and orphanages of the republic. Most of them have grandparents or other guardians.

These children visit them on holidays and weekends. Part of them were sent here by parents because of the difficult situation in the family. It turns out that only 27 children are waiting for the adoption. And couples who want to take them - ten times more.

The houses on the outskirts of Baku are called the Children's Village. Each have eight children of different ages. The babysitter, who is not only my mother, but also a close friend is watching for them. Such villages are an alternative for boarding. There are two of them - in Ganja and Baku. Here the children are prepared for life in the family. Girls help in the kitchen, the boys - in the yard.

In Azerbaijan three government agencies are dealing with the adoption families. Those Who want to adopt a child under three years have to apply to the Ministry of Health, qho wants to adopt an older child - to the Ministry of Education. Foreign couples are applying to the State Committee for Family, Women and Children.
