Strike by drivers, US adoption, mayors conference dominate Ghanaian media

Ghanaian newspapers on Tuesday focused on the strike by commuters, adoption of Ghanaian children and the Mayors’ conference in Accra.The Daily Graphic reported that hundreds of commuters in Accra and surrounding communities were stranded on Monday when commercial drivers embarked on a strike to protest the new road traffic regulations issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) that license would be issued to those with Basic School Certificate and that those without that certificate would be exempted.
The Finder newspaper reported that the Director of Social Welfare Comfort Asare, has hinted that her outfit will look into circumstances under which 124 Ghanaians were adopted by citizens of the United States of America (USA) in 2013/2014 all at a time when a temporary ban was imposed on adoptions.
The Daily Graphic again reported that the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has challenged Mayors attending the fourth World Summit of Mayors in Accra to devise strategies that will effectively address the issues of slum, congestions, crime and sanitation.
