INDORE: The woman and child welfare department will hold a fair on June 24 to help issuelesscouples, who want to adopt a child, and sensitise them about the adoption process.
In the fair, parents, who want to adopt child, will be told about how to make registration on Central Adoption Resource Authority (www.cara.nic.in) and upload documents including birth, age proof, marriage registration, residence proof and family photos to qualify for the adoption.
“Through the fair to be organised in Jawara Compound at Lions Club’s office, we will help issueless couples to follow due process further to adopt an orphan or abandoned or surrendered child,” divisional joint director Rajesh Mehra told TOI.
He added besides issueless couples, prospective adoptive parents will also be rendered information and helped to adopt a child legally.
“Around 100 issueless couples are expected to visit the fair,” the senior official said.
He added that 131 orphans, abandoned and surrendered children are living in government-run hostels in the division. As per the process, these children should be declared ‘legally free for adoption’ by the child welfare committee (CWC).

As per the official records, the department has recently declared 53 children ‘legally free for adoption’ after completing the formalities, which was due since November last year.
The case of 38 children have been presented before CWC further to complete the process, while the department has issued advertisement about 34 children required for declaring ‘legally free for adoption’. The cases of remaining six children are yet to be initiated.
In the fair, the department will rope in the experts to explain the adoption process to the issueless couples, in absence of which, some go for the illegal adoptions.
In lack of awareness about adoption procedure, the childless parents opt for babies below one and two years age, and children who are above five years are retained in the homes and are deprived of parent’s love. But, children below 18 years are legally free for adoption.
