Deputy Boris Barrera explaining about the vote
Deputy Boris Barrera explaining about the vote (22Nov18)
22ND OF NOVEMBER 2018 – NATIONAL CONGRESS OF CHILE:
DEPUTY BORIS BARRERA EXPLAINING ABOUT THE VOTE, WHY IT DID NOT HAPPEN YESTERDAY AND WHEN IT WILL BE HAPPENING.
At 10.00 am, when the time arrived for the deputies to vote in the Chamber, there were not enough people in the Chamber to let the vote happen. This of course led to an emotional atmosphere within the team of “Hijos y Madres del Silencio” and the families who had traveled to Valparaiso in order to support the vote.
Boris explained that for the official vote to take place, he had to get 62 signatures from his colleague-deputies. He reached an amount of 70 signatures so that was green-light to let the vote happen. However, the 70 people who signed the petition in favor of the vote, were not available when the actual vote was to take place.
So for now, all has to be presented again, get to the amount of signatures again so that there will be another official vote happening within Congress. The good news is that the people who did sign this, will of course sign again. Those 70 people are simply in favor of the vote and the Commission to be set up so there will be no difficulties to have them sign again.
These signatures would be gathered the same day and will be up for vote next Tuesday, the 27th of November.
As per Boris Barrera, this is the first time he is requesting an “Investigation Commission” and he honestly informed us that is a learning process for him as well but he is very determined to have this happen for us. For Hijos y Madres del Silencio (HMS) as well as for Chilean Adoptees Worldwide (CAW). CAW might be relatively new but Maria Diemar and Alejandro Quezada have been in personal meetings with him to stress the importance for the Chilean Adoptees who are living abroad and have no easy voice in this matter, because of the distance and because of the language.
Boris Barrera also mentioned that no matter how many times this would be happening again, he will not stop to insist to request for a vote to have the “Investigation Commission” brought to life.
Alejandro Quezada, representing Chilean Adoptees Worldwide, handed over copies of an official letter in which we are making clear who we are, what our objectives are and why that is important to us. He received them with thanks and would give them to anyone not yet convinced of the importance of our case.
Next Tuesday, the 27th of November at 10.30h we will present ourselves again and hopefully, there will be a sufficient amount of deputies in the Chamber so that the vote will happen.
