TV premiere of Amy's will

TV PREMIERE. Ethiopian girl Amy was adopted to Denmark as a 10-year-old. In Katrine W. Kjær's documentary 'Amy's Will', we follow Amy, as as a teenager she decides to actively go against the Danish authorities and return to her biological family. When Amy was 10 years old, she and her little sister became adopted to Denmark and left their mother and older sister in Ethiopia. However, Amy has never settled in her new Danish family. She is afflicted by grief after the loss of her biological family, and she wants her adoption abolished.

The film depicts the personal consequences of systematic failure in the international adoption system, seen through Amy's personal pursuit of justice and his lost identity - from the age of 13 until she is 18 years old. We follow Amy's fight against the Danish and Ethiopian authorities, and come along when she decides to flee to Ethiopia to be reunited with her family in Addis Ababa.

'Amy's will' is directed by Katrine W. Kjær, who Also behind the documentary film 'Mercy Mercy - The Adoption's Price' from 2012 about Masho - another girl from the same orphanage like Amy - who also got caught in the adoption system. The film is produced by Sara Stockmann for Sonntag Pictures with support from The Danish Film Institute.

'Amy's will' premieres on TV 2 on Thursday 24 January 2019 at. 20:00. Released Sunday, January 27th at. 13.20.

Da Amy var 10 år gammel blev hun og hendes lillesøster bortadopteret til Danmark og efterlod deres mor og storesøster i Etiopien. Amy har dog aldrig fundet sig til rette i sin nye danske familie. Hun er ramt af sorg efter tabet af sin biologiske familie, og hun ønsker sin adoption ophævet.

Filmen skildrer de personlige konsekvenser af systematisk svigt i det internationale adoptionssystem, set gennem Amys personlige jagt på retfærdighed og sin tabte identitet – fra hun er 13 til hun er 18 år. Vi følger Amys kamp imod de danske og etiopiske myndigheder, og er med, når hun beslutter sig for at flygte til Etiopien for at blive genforenet med sin familie i Addis Ababa.

'Amys vilje' er instrueret af Katrine W. Kjær, der bl.a. også står bag dokumentarfilmen 'Mercy Mercy - Adoptionens pris' fra 2012 om Masho – en anden pige fra selvsamme børnehjem som Amy – der også kom i klemme i adoptionssystemet. Filmen er produceret af Sara Stockmann for Sonntag Pictures med støtte fra Det Danske Filminstitut.
