gang running a human trafficking (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/human-trafficking) racket. The child was kidnapped
from her residence in Barpeta district (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Barpeta-district)'s Bahmura village by Hasanur
Ali and Iman Ali (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Iman-Ali). The duo had sold off the child for Rs 10,000.
While Imran was caught, Hasanur is still on the run. The child was rescued from Wahidul Haque and his wife who claimed to
have adopted the girl. The couple was also arrested from Nalbari district
Samiran Baishya, deputy superintendent of Barpeta police (DSP), said, "Hasanur was a neighbour of the Nurula Parvin, the
mother of the child. On Friday night, when the mother was sleeping with the baby, Hasanur broke in her house and kidnapped
the child." He added that on Saturday morning when the incident came to light, cops began investigating and caught Iman, who
is a driver, with the help of the locals.
"The investigation has revealed that the arrested couple was looking to adopt a child for a long time. Iman, who knew them,
had planned to kidnap the baby with the help of Hasanur. During the interrogation, Iman admitted that he was in urgent need of
money and hence committed the crime. He also confessed of taking Rs 10,000 from Wahidul," the investigation officer added.
Police have already taken both Iman and Wahidul for two days of remand. The child was also handed over to her biological
mother on Sunday after a court order. Following a court order, both Iman and Wahidul were sent to two days of police custody.
