Objectives overview activities of Lions Club Hoevelaken
In addition to supporting a number of national and international Lions actions and projects, the activities of Lions Club Hoevelaken generally have a clear affinity with Hoevelaken itself. Below is an overview of causes that have been supported by Lions Club Hoevelaken over the years.
Children's home "Enfant Haïtien Mon Frére", Haiti
As this project has been campaigned for many years by the Lions in Hoevelaken, below a more detailed report on this project.
The impetus for this large and years-long campaign was a request in 1985 from the Hoevelaken couple Elly and Frans Holten for support of the Children's Home from which they adopted 4 orphans. The entire project has been realized in several phases. Initially, the Children's Home was thoroughly renovated in 1986 with the contributions of Lions Club Hoevelaken.
The second phase (1989 - 1990) was established in collaboration with the Lions Clubs in Hoogland and Eemland (Baarn / Soest) and comprised the following elements:
Construction of a new school building with 6 classrooms
Renovation of main building and expansion of facilities
Initiation of funding of education / support by UNICEF, which was eventually taken over by other Dutch Lions Clubs for a number of years
Thanks to a significant financial contribution from the Ministry of Development Cooperation, a great deal could be achieved within this project.
In the third phase (2000 - 2001), funds were acquired for the necessary replacement of the 10-year-old passenger bus. Partly due to the doubling of the amount collected by NCDO, a small delivery van could also be purchased.
With a fourth campaign in 2004, money was collected to offer growing boys and girls opportunities to find their place in society after they left the orphanage (eg purchase of sewing machine for seamstress, driving lessons for future taxi driver, etc.).
After the devastating earthquake in early 2010, Lions Club Hoevelaken unleashed a spontaneous action to raise money for the reconstruction of the Children's Home. Partly thanks to the contribution of the funds collected for Haiti from Lions Netherlands, a considerable contribution from Cordaid, in collaboration with the "Friends of Haiti" Foundation, Maastricht and the "Sourirs d'Enfants" Foundation, Belgium, a beautiful Children's Village has been realized that in 2014 was put into operation. Projects for the elderly
Purchase of a Koersbal game for the Elderly Welfare Foundation - SWO (1985)
Study into elderly housing facilities in Hoevelaken, completed with the report "Residential care for the elderly". This study has resulted in the realization of the residential complex for the elderly "Stoutenborgh" in Hoevelaken (1995)
Support of SWO at the opening of “Stoutenborgh”, among other things by installing a garden bench (1998 -1999)
Supporting activities of the "Zonnebloem" Foundation in Hoevelaken in 2011 and 2016 with funds and other contributions for volunteers and guests, such as organizing a joint dinner in 2016.
Contribution to SWO in 2011 for setting up an Internet café for the elderly for PC education in the “Stoutenborgh” complex (including for the purchase of PCs)
Financial Support Project Funeral Home in Amersfoort of the Humanitas Foundation with the aim of teaching people how to deal with great loss (2014)
Supporting the Hoevelaken Emergency Service in various ways on the occasion of its 30th anniversary (2015-2018)

Doelen overzicht activiteiten van Lions Club Hoevelaken
Naast de ondersteuning van enkele nationale en internationale Lions acties en projecten hebben de activiteiten van Lions Club Hoevelaken in het algemeen een duidelijke affiniteit met Hoevelaken zelf. Hieronder een overzicht van doelen die in de loop der jaren door Lions Club Hoevelaken zijn ondersteund.
Kindertehuis "Enfant Haïtien Mon Frére", Haïti
Aangezien er voor dit project vele jaren actie is gevoerd door de Lions in Hoevelaken, hieronder over dit project een meer gedetailleerd verslag.
Aanzet voor deze grote en jaren durende actie was een verzoek in 1985 van de Hoevelakens echtpaar Elly en Frans Holten voor ondersteuning van het Kindertehuis van waaruit zij 4 weeskinderen hebben geadopteerd. Het hele project is in verschillende fazen gerealiseerd. In eerste instantie is het Kindertehuis in 1986 grondig gerenoveerd met de bijdragen van Lions Club Hoevelaken.
De tweede fase (1989 - 1990) is in samenwerking met de Lions Clubs in Hoogland en Eemland (Baarn/Soest) tot stand gekomen en omvatte de volgende elementen:
· Bouw van een nieuwe schoolgebouwtje met 6 lokalen
· Vernieuwing hoofdgebouw en uitbreiding van faciliteiten
· Aanzet financiering van onderwijs/ondersteuning door UNICEF dat uiteindelijk door andere Nederlandse Lions Clubs voor een aantal jaren is overgenomen
Door een aanzienlijke financiële bijdrage van het Ministerie van Ontwikkelingssamenwerking kon binnen dit project heel veel worden verwezenlijkt.
In de derde fase (2000 - 2001) zijn fondsen verworven voor de noodzakelijke vervanging van de 10 jaar oude personen bus. Mede door verdubbeling van het ingezamelde bedrag door NCDO kon daarnaast ook een kleine bestelauto worden aangekocht.
Met een vierde actie in 2004 is geld ingezameld om opgroeiende jongens en meisjes mogelijkheden te bieden om hun plek te vinden in de maatschappij nadat zij het weeshuis verlaten (b.v. aankoop naaimachine voor naaister, rijlessen voor toekomstige taxichauffeur etc.).
Na de verwoestende aardbeving begin 2010 heeft Lions Club Hoevelaken een spontane actie ontketend om geld in te zamelen voor de wederopbouw van het Kindertehuis. Mede dankzij de bijdrage van de voor Haïti ingezamelde gelden van Lions Nederland een aanzienlijke bijdrage van Cordaid is er, in samenwerking met de Stichting "Vrienden van Haïti", Maastricht en Stichting "Sourirs d'Enfants", België, een prachtig Kinderdorp gerealiseerd dat in 2014 in gebruik genomen is. Projecten voor ouderen
Aankoop van Koersbal spel voor Stichting Welzijn Ouderen - SWO (1985)
Studie naar ouderen woonvoorzieningen in Hoevelaken, afgerond met het rapport "Woonzorg voor Ouderen". Deze studie heeft geresulteerd in het realiseren van het wooncomplex voor ouderen "Stoutenborgh" te Hoevelaken (1995)
Ondersteuning van SWO bij de opening van “Stoutenborgh”, onder meer door plaatsing van een tuinbank (1998 -1999)
Ondersteuning van activiteiten van de Stichting “Zonnebloem” in Hoevelaken in 2011 en 2016 met fondsen en andere bijdragen voor vrijwilligers en gasten zoals het organiseren van een gezamenlijk diner in 2016.
Bijdrage aan SWO in 2011 voor opzetten van een Internetcafé voor ouderen voor PC educatie in het complex “Stoutenborgh” (Onder meer voor aanschaf PC’s)
Financiële Ondersteuning Project Rouwcafé in Amersfoort van de Stichting Humanitas met als doel mensen te leren omgaan met groot verlies (2014)
