INTRODUCING… KAREN FROM LIFESTYLE BLOG KARENZ.
Do you know the lifestyle blog Karenz. already? Karenz. is one of the longest running blogs in the Netherlands. Karen, the
inuencer behind Karenz., Started as a real lifestyle blogger, but since the arrival of her son Robin, she also blogs a lot from
her experiences as a mom. We would like to introduce you to her through this interview.
TELL ME WHY KARENZ.?
Actually I already started blogging in 2001. At the time I was really one of the rst bloggers and I had a lifestyle blog. I
posted columns about my life. That was still very much a Sex & the City life at the time. I was a single woman with a thriving
social life and an interesting career in the media. When I met my husband, I didn't feel like sharing everything in my life
anymore. Nevertheless, blogging continued to attract and a few years later I started a lifestyle magazine on the advice of
friends who worked in PR and media. They complained that it was dicult for them to serve the 'older' target group, so I
actually jumped into that gap. At rst I posted 'general' blog articles and reviews. Gradually I started to share personal
blogs again and I also noticed that they were read much better and that there was more engagement. Last year I rebranded
LIFESTYLE BLOG KARENZ.

my lifestyle magazine to Karenz .: A personal life (style) blog. I still post general blog articles, but from a personal point of
view. There are a lot of blogs in the Netherlands, I also think that's the only way you can distinguish yourself: With your own
personality.
WHO DO YOU WRITE YOUR BLOGS FOR?
In general, I write for women like myself: Women who work, are ambitious to a certain extent, but possibly also have a
family. I write what I like to read myself. So I think women who are similar to mine in terms of lifestyle may also nd
themselves in my blogs better. Although I am also read by women without a family, or people over 60. They are of course
also very welcome. There is probably content to be found that they enjoy reading, because my blog is quite diverse. I don't
have a clear niche in terms of topics.
Because I have also been quite open about our adoption and what preceded it, I am also well read by people who are busy
with having children or who want to start an adoption process. I like that I have been able to help many people and that I
often receive emails with questions and / or comments about this. In that respect my blog is not a nothing to worry about
blog where something sad never happens. At rst it is a feel good blog, but I do have a clear opinion about things and
certainly also cover topics that do not make you happy.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST SPECIAL EXPERIENCE AS A BLOGGER SO FAR?
Dicult to choose between. I do a top 3 because I cannot make a choice: 1) That I have been able to help, support and
inspire people. 2) That I have been able to turn my hobby into my full time profession. 3) Great collaborations such as an
ANWB course with a number of followers, being the rst to view the Christmas Allerhande to write an article about it and
beautiful prams that I was allowed to test together with my son.
WHAT KIND OF SPONSORED PARTNERSHIPS DO YOU THINK WORK
BEST?
I rmly believe in native advertising. Commercial content should not stand out too much as commercial. It works best if a
blog could have been written without you having been paid for it. Moreover… the advantage of personal blogs over other
media types is that the message comes from a familiar one to the reader. Many readers come to visit you daily and see you
as a kind of friend with whom they drink a cup of coee. If a friend recommends something to you, you're more likely to
accept it than if you see or hear a regular ad.
That is why I also believe that a personal blog is better than all online magazines in terms of advertising. There is often not
a clear face behind this. Especially not when there are tons of guest bloggers that readers have nothing to do with. I am
therefore happy that I made the switch to Karenz.
AND FINALLY, IF YOU COULD SEND SINTERKLAAS A WISH LIST, WHAT
DO YOU WANT IN YOUR SHOE?
I am quite fond of clothing, so clothing from my favorite brands Anecdote, Amator, Maison Scotch and American Vintage is
always welcome. But also beautiful design stu at home makes my heart beat faster. But as a blogger you are very spoiled,
you already get so much beautiful and fun stu that I seriously can't think of anything else.
