Anupama's baby adopted by Andhra couple: Report
Thiruvananthapuram: The baby of former SFI leader Anupama S Chandran who was
allegedly taken away by her parents was adopted by a couple from Andhra Pradesh, it is
learnt. The child was adopted temporarily and the court proceedings to make the adoption
process permanent is progressing amid the controversies. Anupama S Chandran, the
Daughter of a Peroorkada CPI-M area committee member Jayachandran, came up with
allegations against her family members a few days back.
Anupama complained that her parents took away her baby three days after delivery.
Since then she has been complaining to various authorities, including DGP and chief minister, to
get the baby back. But no action has been taken, she said. She added that she will
approach the court, if she does not get her baby back. The baby turned one on October
19.
According to Anupama’s complaint, the child was taken away from her family and they had
promised that the baby will be brought back once Anupama’s sister is married off.
However, they did not bring the child back even after her sister’s wedding.
On the basis of a complaint filed with the Child Welfare Committee, a baby received there
on October 22 was subjected to a DNA test. But, it was proved that the baby was not hers.
Another baby received on the same date was already adopted by somebody else. So, they
could not conduct a DNA test.
Another controversy had erupted over reporting the gender of boy. It is alleged that the boy
was recorded as a girl child by the Child Welfare Committee. Anupama said that her
parents took away the child on October 22, 2020. Next day, the committee published a
press release stating that a girl child was received at the child cradle and she was
named Malala.
After this, the nurse at the Child Welfare Committee examined the baby and then took to
the hospital at Thycaud to conduct further check ups. The gender of child was recorded as
a girl here too. Later, the child was taken to Covid observation centre and recorded here as
a boy.
On the grounds of the mistake, actions were taken against two nurses. Another boy child
was received in the Ammathottil cradle on the same night. As it was the birthday of
footballer Pele, the boy was named as Edson Pele.
