FIR Filed Against Adopted Parents For Alleged Child Abuse Of 3-Year-Old

6 May 2023

GUWAHATI: An FIR was filed against Walliul Islam and Sangita Dutta on the grounds of suspected child abuse

of their adopted 3-year-old daughter at the Paltan Bazaar police station on May 5.

The complainant alleged that the couple tortured and harassed their adopted daughter by tying her up on the

terrace of the building in the intense heat purposefully without food or water, with an alleged intent to cause

harm or even kill the child.

This has come across as gruesome and inhumane and has professed the cause that such behaviour may lead to

the death of the child from Hyperthermia.

Sources also state that the neighbourhood had reported similar events but to no avail.

The child has also been allegedly reported to have been seen with bruises on the body, demarcating signs of

alleged physical abuse by the foster parents.

Miguel Das Queah, A Child Rights Activist has taken to his social media to comment on the same. His post read,

“Finally the dangerous doctor couple Dr. Waliul Islam and Dr. Sangeeta Duttas cruelty has been taken notice of

by Guwahati Police. From a long time, I had received complaints about this horrid doctor couple who regularly

tied their little daughter (who is supposedly adopted) on their terrace in the blaring summer heat. This little 5-

year-old girl child also has bruise marks all over their body. I had requested the witnesses to file a complaint but

no one was willing to as they were scared, till finally today someone had the courage to call up the Police. (Kudos

to the person who called the Police). I had in the meantime I had already requested the Kamrup Metro Child

Welfare Committee on the matter weeks back, urging them to conduct a welfare check. This doctor couple Dr.

Waliul Islam and Dr. Sangeeta Dutta hobnob with the rich and the powerful and therefore they thought that they

are beyond the purview of the law. I request the Assam Police to check the bruises, talk with the teachers, talk

with the neighbours and most importantly check the adoption documents. The child should immediately be

pulled out of that abusive environment. It seems this Dr. Waliul has another illegally adopted girl child from a

previous marriage, who he has abandoned.”

After the necessary and due filing of the FIR on Friday, the case has now been taken up by the Assam Police who

are undergoing further investigation to verify the details and conduct a rescue mission for the adopted child, if

the suspected parents are found guilty.

According to sources in the police, the foster father Walliul Islam, tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping

pills while he was in the police station for questioning.

He was then immediately rushed to the nearby hospital for emergency care, and his status as of now is said to be

stable.

Police sources informed that the foster mother, Sangeeta Dutta was absconding. But according to recent reports,

Walliul has been arrested by the police.

Further case details are awaited
