Couple Together For 7 Years Find Out Shocking – And Creepy – Bombshell About Their RelationshipCouple Together For 7 Years Find
A Brazilian couple has given a whole new meaning to the term sister-wife.
Adriana, 39, and husband Leandro, 37 – who didn't want to reveal their surnames – have been together for seven years and have a 6-year-old daughter. Now, thanks to a shocking revelation on a radio show, the happily married pair found out that they are even closer than they thought – like brother and sister close.
The two had both spent their lives searching for their respective mothers, both named Maria, and had both been abandoned when they were still babies. Seeking some closure on the issue, Adriana went on Radio Globo's “The Time Is Now” program, which specializes in finding lost relatives, and was reunited with her birth mother.
During the heartfelt reunion, the mother also revealed that Adriana also has a younger brother and guess who that was? That’s right, it’s Adriana’s husband, Leandro.
Obviously, shocked by the news of her incestuous marriage, Adriana broke down on the set and began to cry uncontrollably.
“I don't believe that you're telling me this. Leandro is my husband,” she said, according to the Daily Mail. “Now I'm scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn't want me anymore. I love him so much.”
Adriana, a cosmetics saleswoman and divorced mother of three, met the truck driver Leandro when she moved back to her hometown in the state of São Paulo, and they quickly fell in love and moved in together. While the couple was never actually married legally, they told Radio Globo following the revelation that they would continue to stick together despite the familial relation.
“Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen,” Adriana said, according to the Independent. “Of course it would have been different if we had known all this before, but we didn't and we fell in love.”
The couple also said that they don’t blame their mother for the sibling snafu and have spoken to her a number of times since and have even made plans to meet up with her again.
“We thought it was funny that both our mothers had the same name, but it is a common name so we just thought it was a coincidence,” Adriana said. “At first we were really knocked by it all. But we had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think.”
While Adriana and Leandro’s family matter may seem strange (and it is), it is also part of a scientific theory called Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) that occurs when “two adults who have been separated during the critical years of development and bonding and are reunited alter as adults,” according to a GSA website.
This type of attraction that occurs between separated family members can been defined by people not having experienced what is known as the Westermark Effect, a proposed psychological effect that hypothesizes that people who live in close domestic proximity during the first few years of their lives (i.e. brother and sister) become desensitized to any later sexual attraction. People who experience GSA have supposedly not had this critical period of desensitization together.
